About Us

  • The Children's Advocacy Center of East Central Missouri is a child-friendly place for children who may have been victims of abuse. We provide fact-finding forensic interviews, medical exams, victim advocacy and other services. Our goal is to make the investigation as easy as possible for the children.

  • ChildFirst (formerly Finding Words)
    After months (maybe years) of promising training to you all…I think the time is here.  Save the date- ChildFirst training at East Central College in Union from September 28-Oct 2. We are hoping to open this up to 100 students instead of 40. Because the way the training is set up, we will only be able to do the five day training for 40 students, but will open it up for the rest of the students for the first three days. Cost for the training will be $200 for the five day and $150 for the three day. Scholarships will be available. More information to follow….

Who's involved?

The CACECM uses a multidisciplinary approach which allows for a more organized, informed response to child abuse investigations.

The multidisciplinary team (MDT) is composed of the following disciplines: CAC, Children’s Division, Prosecuting Attorney, Juvenile Office, Law Enforcement, Mental Health, and Medical Services.  MDTs can be segregated into two groups: investigative (consisting of Law Enforcement, Children’s Division, Juvenile Office, and Prosecuting Attorney) and collaterals (Mental Health, Medical Services, and school personnel).  The purpose of the MDT is to provide a coordinated response among the agencies involved in the investigation of child abuse of a serious or criminal nature.

The CAC brings all the disciplines together to gather and share information regarding an allegation of child abuse.  However, at the time of a child’s forensic interview only Law Enforcement, Juvenile Office, and Children’s Division are allowed to view the interview.
